The Pat Schafhauser Foundation

The "Pat Schafhauser Foundation" was established by the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation and HC Lugano after Lugano defenseman Pat Schafhauser crashed into the boards during a championship game in Davos in December 1995 and suffered severe spinal cord injuries. The American-Swiss dual citizen has been a paraplegic ever since.

The purpose of the foundation is,

to support the following events and activities with the proceeds of its assets, as well as with current income:
the financial support in case of personal emergencies that have arisen as a consequence of the practice of ice hockey sports
the financing of projects for the prevention of accidents in the sport of ice hockey
financial support for the rehabilitation of the consequences of accidents in the sport of ice hockey
financial support of projects for the promotion of health in the sport of ice hockey
other projects that directly or indirectly serve the sport of ice hockey or the promotion of health.

If necessary, the capital can also be used for the purpose.
