Die "Pat Schafhauser-Stiftung" wurde vom Schweizerischen Eishockey-Verband, heute Swiss Ice Hockey Federation und dem HC Lugano ins Leben gerufen, nachdem der Lugano-Verteidiger Pat Schafhauser, bei einem Meisterschaftsspiel in Davos, im Dezember 1995, in die Bande stürzte und sich schwere Rückenmark-Verletzungen zuzog. Der amerikanisch-schweizerische Doppelbürger ist seither querschnittgelähmt.

Die Stiftung bezweckt,

mit Erträgnissen ihres Vermögens, sowie mit laufenden Einnahmen, die folgenden Ereignisse und Aktivitäten zu unterstützen:

• die finanzielle Unterstützung bei persönlichen Notlagen, die als Folgen des Ausübens des Eishockeysports entstanden sind
• die Finanzierung von Projekten für die Prävention von Unfällen im Eishockeysport
• die finanzielle Unterstützung für die Rehabilitation von Unfallfolgen aus dem Eishockeysport
• die finanzielle Unterstützung von Projekten für die Förderung der Gesundheit im Eishockeysport
• anderen Projekte, die dem Eishockeysport bzw. der Förderung der Gesundheit direkt oder indirekt dienen

Bei Bedarf kann auch das Kapital zur Zweckverfolgung verwendet werden.

The "Pat Schafhauser Foundation" was established by the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation and HC Lugano after Lugano defenseman Pat Schafhauser crashed into the boards during a championship game in Davos in December 1995 and suffered severe spinal cord injuries. The American-Swiss dual citizen has been a paraplegic ever since.

The purpose of the foundation is,

• to support the following events and activities with the proceeds of its assets, as well as with current income:
• the financial support in case of personal emergencies that have arisen as a consequence of the practice of ice hockey sports
• the financing of projects for the prevention of accidents in the sport of ice hockey
• financial support for the rehabilitation of the consequences of accidents in the sport of ice hockey
• financial support of projects for the promotion of health in the sport of ice hockey
• other projects that directly or indirectly serve the sport of ice hockey or the promotion of health.

If necessary, the capital can also be used for the purpose.
